New Orleans Bowl

Troy v. Rice

Favorite: Rice -4.5 (opened -6.5)

O/U: 54.5

Rice hasn’t been to a bowl game in 45 years, while Troy earned their second appearance in 6 years at the Division 1 level. Rice sports a potent offense, but unfortunately, the word defense isn’t in their vocabulary giving up 46 touchdowns on the season and average of over 400 yards per game.

Troy isn’t much better, but defensively, they should effectively take the air game away from Rice. While their offense isn’t as potent, we see a lot of fight in their program.

We like Troy is a straight up win, with overtime action being a strong possibility.

Las Vegas Bowl

BYU v. Oregon

Favorite: BYU -3

Turnovers will be the flavor of the game tonight in Las Vegas. Oregon gave the ball away 30 times this season en route to their 7-5 season capped off by a three game losing streak. BYU won their first Mountain West title since 2001 this year and QB John Beck is out to avenge his poor performance in last years Las Vegas Bowl loss to Cal.

Oregon hit the skids in the last half of their season while BYU dominated. The Cougars last regular season game scare against Utah will ensure they come out fighting. 3 points is a gift and we see a blowout.

Minnesota at Green Bay

Lambeau Field hasn’t been too kind to the Packers this year as they’ve only managed a 2-5 record. But tonight, it is going to be cold and wet. The Vikings looked strong out of the gate this season, then stumbled. Tonight, the changing of the guard at QB as Minnesota looks to rookie Tarvaris Jackson to take the helm.

1. No rookie QB has won his first start this season.

2. This may be Favre last game at Lambeau.

3. The weather brings out the magic at Lambeau.

Northern Illinois v. TCU

Favorite: TCU -12

O/U: 47

The Huskies may have a major threat with RB Garrett Wolfe, but TCU’s defense is just too strong. Couple that with a potent Horned Frog offense that is averaging three touchdowns per game on a season going against the porous Northern Illinois defense.

This game will likely start out slow, but watch for a second half explosion by TCU.

San Diego has clinched the Division with their blowout win over Denver last week. Kansas City has been in a bit of a funk since Trent Green returned to quarterback. We see San Diego taking things a bit easy with the division championship in hand and wouldn’t be surprised to see LT take fewer carries than usual
